The New Zealand Education Code of Practice requires that all international students studying in New Zealand must have appropriate travel and medical insurance which covers:

  • the student’s travel to and from New Zealand and within New Zealand;
  • medical care in New Zealand (including diagnosis, prescription, surgery and hospitalisation);
  • repatriation or expatriation and
  • student critical crisis.

Our International Team can assist you with arranging your child's insurance using New Zealand based insurance providers Southern Cross or Orbit Protect. Students may obtain their own insurance cover but will need to provide details of their insurance policy in English showing that they have comprehensive insurance which covers all of the requirements set out above.

Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available

from New Zealand’s Ministry of Health. The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but international students may still be liable for all other medical and related costs.
