This Policy covers the Board’s responsibilities under National Administration Guideline 6 (NAG 6). Policy 1. The Board is to ensure compliance with all general legislation. 2. The Board has resolved that the Principal will be responsible for the management of the school, which includes: (a) attendance, the length of the school day, term start dates and end dates, and the length of the school year, as mentioned in NAG 6. (b) financial management of the school, particularly in terms of the Public Finance Act 1989, the Crown Entities Act 2004, the Education Act 1989 and all Regulations, Orders in Council, directions and other subsidiary legislation issued pursuant to those Acts. (c) employment issues in relation to Board staff, in terms of the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the collective agreement (if relevant). (d) the operation of the school in terms of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (occupational health and safety), the Resource Management Act 1991 (compliance with applicable consents and any conditions attaching to them, and the control over the release of contaminants into the environment) and the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (the control of use and storage of chemicals and hazardous substances). 3. The Principal is to keep the Board fully informed of any issues which may give rise to liability on the part of the Board in relation to such matters. Implementation of Policy The Principal shall prepare and keep up to date procedures which address the issues raised by all relevant legislation, and shall monitor compliance with the procedures and keep the Board informed of any issues relating to the procedures and any compliance issues as they arise. NAG 6 Each Board of Trustees is also expected to comply with all general legislation concerning requirements such as attendance, the length of the school day, and the length of the school year.
