Policy

The school will provide a safe physical and emotional learning environment.

Implementation of policy


The principal is to develop and maintain procedures for ensuring thephysical and emotional safety of all staff and students including:
i.    ensuring the safety of staff, students, visitors and contactorsby complying with relevant health and safety legislation, standards andcodes of practice;

ii.    establishing an effective method for identifying hazards and controlling or eliminating them;

iii.    meeting the needs of students with specific health needs;

iv.    promoting healthy food and nutrition for students;

v.    recording and monitoring accidents and injuries to continually improve the school’s health and safety standards;

vi.    ensuring the school has procedures in place to create an environment where students and staff feel safe and respected;

vii.    ensuring a risk analysis management system (RAMS) is carried out where and when appropriate; and

viii.    consulting with the community regarding the health programme being delivered to students.

Purpose

NAG 5
This policy deals with the requirements of National Administration Guideline 5, which states:

Each Board of Trustees is also required to:
i.     provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students;
ii.    promote healthy food and nutrition for all students;
iii.   comply in full with any legislation currently in force or thatmay be developed to ensure the safety of students and employees.
