The school will provide a safe physical and emotional learning environment.
 
Implementation of policy
 
The principal is to develop and maintain procedures for ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all staff and students
including:
 
i.                ensuring the safety of staff, students, visitors and contractors by complying with relevant health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice. This includes those outlined in the health and safety manual provided by safety assist.

ii.              establishing an effective method for identifying hazards and eliminating, isolating or minimizing them;

iii.             meeting the needs of students with specific health needs;

iv.             promoting healthy food and nutrition for students;

v.              recording and monitoring incidents, accidents and injuries to continually improve the school’s health and safety standards;

vi.             ensuring the school has procedures in place to create an environment where students and staff feel safe and respected;

vii.            ensuring a risk analysis management system (RAMS) is carried out where and when appropriate;

viii.           consulting with the community regarding the health programme being delivered to students.

ix.             ongoing evaluation, review and updating of our compliance with our health and safety programme and this policy

Purpose

This policy deals with the requirements of National Administration Guideline 5, which states:
Each Board of Trustees is also required to:
i         provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students;
ii.         promote healthy food and nutrition for all students;
iii.         comply in full with any legislation currently in force or that may be developed to ensure the safety of students and employees.
